Luna sat on a nearby branch, watching him with tired eyes. She knew it was time for her baby to start weaning, to learn to eat on his own. Yet her heart ached as she listened to his cries echo through the trees. Lynx followed her closely, pulling at her fur, begging for milk that no longer came.
Other monkeys glanced over, some curious, some sympathetic, as the little one sobbed in frustration. His voice was small but full of emotion. After a long moment, Luna gently touched his head, as if to say, “You must grow up now.” Though the tears still rolled down Lynx’s face, he slowly began to settle beside her, realizing that even without milk, his mother’s love was still near.
