Title: Amina Tried to Ask Her Mother for Milk While She Was Very Hungry
Amina sat quietly in the corner of the small room, her stomach rumbling louder with each passing minute. The afternoon sun slipped through the thin curtains, but it did nothing to warm the emptiness she felt inside. She hadn’t eaten since the night before, and now the hunger was becoming unbearable.
Her mother was busy near the stove, stirring a pot of soup meant for dinner. The smell filled the room, making Amina’s hunger even sharper. She watched her mother carefully, wondering if she should speak. She wanted to ask for milk—just a small cup—but something held her back.
Amina knew her family did not have much. Milk was not always available, and when it was, it was often saved for her younger brother. Still, her hunger pushed her to gather courage. She slowly stood up and walked toward her mother.
“Mother…” she began softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her mother didn’t hear her at first. The sound of the bubbling soup covered Amina’s timid voice. Amina hesitated, then tried again, this time a little louder. “Mother, may I have some milk? I’m very hungry.”
Her mother paused and turned to look at her. For a moment, there was silence. Amina lowered her eyes, afraid of the answer she might receive.
Her mother sighed gently and knelt beside her. “My dear Amina,” she said, brushing a strand of hair from her face, “we only have a little milk left, and your brother needs it. But wait here.”
Amina nodded, her heart sinking slightly, but she understood.
A few minutes later, her mother returned with a small bowl of warm soup. “This will help for now,” she said kindly.
Amina took the bowl with both hands and smiled faintly. Though it wasn’t milk, the warmth and love in her mother’s gesture filled more than just her stomach. In that moment, Amina realized that even in hardship, care and kindness could make hunger easier to bear.
